Operations

Start with the work, not the tool.

When the work has outgrown the way it is organised, tools keep arriving faster than the process can absorb them. The unofficial path becomes the real one.

AS DRAWNAS DONETHE JOIN
Fig. IAs drawn, and as done. The join is the work.

01 The picture

The unofficial path is not a footnote.

Operations feel the cost of complexity first. A new system, introduced without a reading of the work, usually adds another place to look.

We map how work actually moves — including the spreadsheet that is the real system of record, and the person who is asked because the official owner is too slow.

Then we find the few constraints that create most of the delay. Often the problem is a join, not a missing platform. Buying a layer that hides the gap makes Friday afternoon harder.

The useful output is a sequence operations can run: owners at the joins, a first slice that does not require the estate to move, and a clear account of what will stop.

  • 01Start from

The work as it is done

  • 02Typical pressure

    Delay, rework, silent workarounds

  • 03Usual mistake

Buying a system for a process problem

  • 04Useful output

A path with owners at the joins

02 What continues

A path they can staff.

Not a catalogue of initiatives. A designed way of working that is easier than the workaround.

  • Map how work actually moves, including the unofficial paths
  • Find the few constraints that create most of the delay
  • Decide which systems should connect, and which should stay out of the way
  • Give operations a sequence they can run, not a catalogue of initiatives

A conversation

Bring the constraint as it currently stands.

We will help you find the problem underneath — and whether technology should wait.
